Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission
Project Manager

Location: Fully remote position. Work will be performed remotely but occasional travel to various locations across the state of Maryland will be required.
DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of State Government. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
On behalf of the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a contractual Project Manager to support the Commission’s work. In 2019, the Maryland General Assembly passed House Bill 307 creating the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission (MLTRC). House Bill 307 authorizes the Commission to research cases of racially motivated lynchings and hold public meetings and regional hearings in each Maryland County with documented cases of lynching. The Project Manager position is a unique and exciting opportunity to provide project management services for the Commission.
The position will provide project management servicessuch as:
Establish planning requirements and needs for each County public hearing
Drive the comprehensive planning, task completion and quality oversight of work efforts required for successful execution of public hearings
Serve as primary contact in the engagement of relevant planning stakeholders, vendors, and local County partners
Monitor scope, schedule, and budgetary costs for hearings and other Commission projects
Create and maintain project documentation
Attend Commission weekly/monthly business meetings and public hearings virtually or inperson
Serve as member of the Commission’s Executive Steering Team, and perform related duties as assigned
The Office of the Attorney General will fund this position using funds awarded through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Emmett Till Cold Case Investigations Program Grant. Although hours may vary week to week, this position requires an individual with full availability during traditional business hours to attend meetings, engage stakeholders, and perform the necessary work. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the ability to participate in meetings after traditional business hours, as needed, and to attend Commission public hearings, which are typically scheduled for weekend dates.
EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will be a certified Project Management Professional OR hold a degree in Business Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university OR have at least five years equivalent volunteer and/or professional experience as a project manager working in, or collaboratively with, cultural organizations and/or government agencies or related experience.
Candidates should have experience in project management; an ability to communicate clearly and concisely to all types of audiences; be an excellent organizer with ability to work well under tight deadlines; and proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Candidates with experience or familiarity with social justice, cultural history, public policy at the state or local community level and/or government agencies preferred.

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS: Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12-month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
