Our story “People of Faith Say The War In Gaza Is A Human Rights Issue” was shared at Faithfully Magazine, a news site that covers national Christian politics.
‘Stop Netanyahu Now’ — Muslim, Jewish and Christian Leaders Call on Biden to Demand Gaza Ceasefire
During the month of Ramadan and Holy Week, Muslims, Jews, Black pastors, activists, and local politicians gathered at the Hemingway AME Church in District Heights, Maryland, calling for county council members and the Biden administration to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
“There’s no way that we weren’t going to open our doors,” said Rev. Krishnan Natesan, pastor of Hemingway AME Church. “This is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jewish thing. This is a humanitarian thing – and because it’s a human thing, we must extend compassion. Compassion must ring out for the least of these.”

Join Social Justice in Community on April 11th for Black Women, Yoga, and Wellness with Tori Justin here:
Tori Justin is a PhD candidate in the Department of Kinesiology. Her research interests articulate black feminist theory, health equity, and the philosophy of science. More specifically, her position is the disparate health outcomes of Black women as the embodied outcome of structural injustice. Tori's past and present projects focus on how scientific knowledge historically and contemporarily subjugates the Black body and alternative ways of knowing the body. You may find her research in "Feminist Media Studies and Health: An Interdisciplinary Journal and the Sociology of Sport Journal." Tori also serves as Vice President of the Physical Cultural Studies Graduate Student Association.
Solidarity Stories - Poverty, By America
Date: April 16, 2024
Times: 6:30 pm
Join us as Solidary Stories, our lively book discussion series in partnership with the Prince George's County Memorial Library System and Mixt Food Hall in Mt. Rainier, continues! This month we are discussing Matthew Desmond's Poverty, By America.
The United States, the richest country on earth, has more poverty than any other advanced democracy. Why? Why does this land of plenty allow one in every eight of its children to go without basic necessities, permit scores of its citizens to live and die on the streets, and authorize its corporations to pay poverty wages? In this landmark book, acclaimed sociologist Matthew Desmond draws on history, research, and original reporting to show how affluent Americans knowingly and unknowingly keep poor people poor. Elegantly written and fiercely argued, this compassionate book gives us new ways of thinking about a morally urgent problem. It also helps us imagine solutions. Desmond builds a startlingly original and ambitious case for ending poverty. He calls on us all to become poverty abolitionists, engaged in a politics of collective belonging to usher in a new age of shared prosperity and, at last, true freedom.
