History has been made again in the state of Maryland. Monday, Dec. 5, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the first Black woman county executive, became the first Black woman reelected to this position. The event was held at the Show Place Arena. There were multiple speeches, and speakers made sure to interweave their faith into their personal narrative.
Alsobrooks's speech reiterated some of the things she had been talking about throughout her first tenure. She opened up talking about how her administration helped to move the county through the pandemic. She boasted about the county's economic development that is taken place primarily in the Northern section of the county. She doubled down on the teen curfew, and told a moving story about visiting a crime scene of a little girl who was allegedly shot by someone. (Note: Crime has been a huge talking point for Democrats, nationally. It is no surprise that this was a part of her message). I will revisit Alsobrooks's speech in January. I think it deserves more attention.
In addition, three new council members were inaugurated: Wala Blegay, Krystal Oriadha, Wanika Fisher.
The Prince George's County Memorial Library held a discussion about student loans. The event was meant to inform you about the program, and what is going on with it.
